There are some words in the English language that cause an immediate negative reaction. Fear. Stress. Confusion. All caused by one tiny little word that starts with ‘c’. You guessed it. That nasty word brings not only an immediate fear of painful procedures and even death, but also ‘cures’ that make you wish you were dead.
What if instead, it did what it did for a dear friend and student of mine? (Keep reading and I’ll tell you the rest of the beginning of the story.)
In many indigenous traditions the power of group healing is undeniable. Many cultures practice group fire ceremonies, sweat lodges, dances, and more. There’s no denying that when 2 or more are gathered with a shared purpose, the energy of their intention multiples exponentially, creating a continuous ripple effect of positive change. In this instance 4 women came together from very different backgrounds, each a powerful practitioner of healing in her own right. The first is a college professor who can sense and feel the density and temperature of energy, skilled at grounding and transmuting it quickly. Another is a corporate professional by day who radiates light, using it to clear and replace energies that no longer serve. Our lovely sister with the recent diagnosis, an eternal earth mother healer if I’ve even seen one. She crafts potent potions and tinctures, her voice toned to ancient wisdoms, and deeply connected to our red mother earth. Then me, a shaman and healing teacher, privileged to guide and witness the development of these singularly talented women.
We each agreed to connect energetically at a specific time, each of us pausing for 5 minutes wherever we were to focus our group intentions on healing, health and well-being for our lovely sister. As I centered myself, I began seeing in my mind the four of us holding hands in a circle, a powerful flow of loving and warm energy flowing through each of us and into the next through our hands. Earlier in the day I was given a visualization for each of us to begin with: See our lovely sister sitting facing a corner with a powerful vortex in front of her. I could see shadowy, iridescent particles being drawn from her body and into the vortex. I saw the same vortex hovering in the middle of her farm and saw the dead spirits of trees and rocks and the river being pulled into the vortex, and heard a voice say, “It is time for them to be recycled. Now a living spirit can inhabit the spaces where the dead spirits were.” (Her farm was devastated by the recent flooding in western North Carolina.)
When I was complete with my work, I checked back in with the others. One of the students saw our lovely sister standing at her farm, sun shining as spring renewal of new grass and flowers popped up all around her, with her at ease and smiling. She saw the wind moving things around and heard, “This energy isn’t created, it’s just moved and changed into a form that is no longer harmful.” Even though this part of our journey is new, the willingness of these powerful women to band together, to offer their unique gifts to our lovely sister for her health and wellbeing, makes me feel so honored to be their guide through their individual journeys of discovering their own unique gifts. These women are why I do what I do. Each of these lovelies will go on to touch the lives and hearts and minds of other women who are out of my reach. They will each impact hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands, and even millions that I’ll never meet.
For my student facing this ugly diagnosis, Lovely I hope you feel strong and ready and able. I hope you feel supported and loved and cared for deeply. I love you dearly, my life is so much richer for having you in it!
