Before the Wheel: Burnt Out, Underpaid, and Spiritually Starving

Before I was introduced to the Medicine Wheel, I was in a business that made me feel like I was drowning. I was a wedding and branding photographer — and I hated weddings. The family dynamics, the pressure, the drama… it just didn't feel good. (God bless wedding photographers, that's hard work!) I was doing it mostly to support my best friend, who was a planner. Which in hindsight, was the exact wrong reason to do it!

I was stressed, overwhelmed, and constantly undercharging. Which meant my stress level went even higher because of the worry about money and paying the bills. If someone so much as blinked at my pricing, I would fold and discount. I had no boundaries, no structure, and no belief that I could actually succeed without a full-time job to "back me up." I hadn’t received a raise at my job in eight years and I still couldn’t bring myself to ask for one.

Looking back now, I see that I wasn’t just lacking a strategy, I was deeply disconnected from my own worth, my truth, and the deeper wisdom that lived in my body.

My First Direction: A South-Side Initiation

I began my journey with the Medicine Wheel in the South, jsut like everyone does. It's the direction of beginnings. Everyone begins in the South in my tradition. On the very first day, we did a journey to meet our archetypes. That’s when she appeared: an Indigenous woman named Shashownee.

She told me clearly:

“You’re going to teach this one day.”

I argued with her. “No way! I’m here for me!”She simply responded, “I hear you. You’re going to teach this one day.”

Spoiler: she was right.

Back then, I never would’ve imagined that this sacred work would become the energetic backbone of my entire business strategy. But as I moved through the directions, something shifted: I began to trust my own guidance. I let go of doing things “by the book.” I began designing my business with my soul, not just my brain.

The Wheel Became My Business Partner

After the wheel, I didn’t just work differently, I lived differently.

I began journeying to channel new offers.I priced my work based on energy, not fear. I set fierce boundaries around my time and honored them. I followed lunar rhythms and Universal law instead of forcing my own thought based timeline.

The next few years shocked me. I doubled my business income in the first year. Doubled again the next. Then I cut my working hours and still made more money.

My offers started filling faster and with more ease. The women showing up were more and more exactly who I dreamed of serving. The more I practiced the teachings of the Wheel, the more the Universe conspired in my favor.
